Historic Motorsport Ltd built and entered two Mk 1 Ford Escort RS1600s on the 2007 East African Safari Classic Rally.

The cars were crewed by Stig Blomqvist and Ana Goni and Bjorn Waldegard and his son Mathias.

For over half of the 10 day event the cars ran 1st and 2nd with the two ex World Champions vying for the lead.

Unfortunately a half shaft failure delayed Stig Blomqvist dropping him to 8th overall on the 7th day.

However at the end of the 4500 km long rough event through Kenya and Tanzania Bjorn Waldegard repeated his 1977 Ford Escort victory whilst Stig Blomqvist and Ana Goni finished 6th.

The cars and the support on the event were indicative of the high standard of preparation and event planning that is synonymous with Historic Motorsport ltd.
